Uma solicitação via 193, informou ao Centro de Operações do Corpo de Bombeiros (COBOM), entre 4h e 5h, que a estátua da Liberdade, situada na mega loja no sentido Capital – Interior da rodovia, estaria em chamas.
Rapidamente equipes foram empenhadas para o atendimento da ocorrência, e por volta das 05h todo o fogo foi extinto depois do combate realizado pelos militares, porém o monumento ficou completamente destruído.
Já em janeiro de 2020, dias após o incêndio, o proprietário das Lojas Havan, Luciano Hang, publicou vídeo nas redes sociais vestido de xerife do velho oeste, no qual oferecia uma recompensa de R$ 100 mil para quem oferecesse informações a respeito dos possíveis autores do incêndio.
